Optional: Add caraway seeds, cashews, almonds, rosemary, black pepper, red pepper flakes, dried green jalapeno, or any other nuts, seeds or spices you prefer. Or omit from the recipe what doesn’t appeal to you. Adjust to taste.
How you do:
In a mixing bowl, add all of the dry ingredients. Give a good stir to combine, then pour in the water. Use a spatula, spoon or knead with your hands to combine all the ingredients. Let the dough sit for a few minutes, to allow the flax to better absorb the moisture, which makes the dough easier to work with.
You can then start forming little popcorn size balls with your hands. If the mixture is too sticky, sprinkle in a little extra flax seed meal to slightly dry the mixture out and make it easier to work with. They don’t have to be perfectly round, if a little jagged, it’s more reminiscent of popcorn!
Place on parchment paper in a dehydrator. If you prefer crackers, simply flatten the balls on the parchment paper and you will have the same deliciousness in the form of round crackers!!!
Dehydrate until crispy through and through. Could take several hours, depending on your dehydrator. Snack as you please, or put a handful in a bowl and cover with your favorite topping. Unlike popcorn, a few of these little bites go a long way!!! Enjoy!!!
*These also make a great topping for salads, as a substitute for croutons!!!
